Blue Water Cove

posted by MA staff

We stayed out here one weekend earlier this year.  The house and surrounding property (it is made up of 3 buildings overall) is a nice in concept overall (if you can overlook that the place is so very much not kid friendly and the super bachelor vibe).  However, the finish out quality leaves a lot to be desired.  The feeling one got was that the builder was switched part way through the project and that the second builder was told just to finish it at the lowest possible cost or simply wasn’t used to working with the tolerances required of a modern home.

Can you elaborate on the finish out quality? Thanks!

A good example is one the floating ceiling. You see how it sets back a bit from the wall and creates a gap there. Looks great in the pictures, but in person you see that the edges are rough and not always cut straight. You can also see up into the space above the float which if done right you shouldn’t be able to. Another issue is with the some of the rock wall siding, may not be visible in the pictures but there are 2 different finishes and in some places the quality of grout is low. The paint job, especially on the exposed steel, seemed sloppy.

Just lots of little things like that. I think the issue is outlines of the house and the view set a high standard. Conceptually there is a lot to like. I like the cluster of structures around the property rather than one massive house. I just suspect that to bring the finish out up to par would be another two hundred thousand (unless you were doing a lot of it yourself).
