Modern Wedding Venues

posted by MA staff

Anyone have recommendations on modern or architecturally interesting wedding venues in the greater Austin area?  Say around 150-200 people?

This is for a reader and it isn’t the first time the question has come up.  The only thing I could think off the top of my head was Kimber or San Jose Hotels but both would be for a pretty small party.  I remember someone telling me about a venue in the hill country but I couldn’t remember the name.

Please post in the comments any ideas.   Thanks.

I don’t know of any off the top of my head, but a former neighbor who loves all things modern is a professional wedding photographer here in town – it’s at least a place to start – her name is Heather: http://eclecticimagesphotography.com/

My daughter got married here last spring. It was great! Can easily accommodate a couple hundred people.

Definitely check out The Plant in Kyle: http://theplantatkyle.com/ This is the Carraro Residence designed by Lake Flato Architects that won many accolades. It’s now a B&B and here are some lovely wedding shots taken at the facility: http://www.elizabethannedesigns.com/blog/2009/11/20/real-weddings-lori-jonathan/

I drove out there last year to see the property for the first time after admiring it in magazines and books for years. Wonderful hill country setting and great vernacular architecture all in one.

Friend of mine rented on of HomeAway properties (not sure how many guests they had); I was thinking myself about it, but we decided not to rent.

I would think something like this http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p175358 or that http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p918165 would work – big modern house on few acres.

    Cheers!

We had our wedding at the Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/macc/ but only because we needed to accommodate between 300-400. It turned out beautiful, but if we were able to go smaller we would have gone with Mercury Hall for sure.

The MACC is a great recommendation. I attended an electro-acoustic show there a few years back and I enjoyed that building.

There’s a place in Kyle called something like “The Plant” or “The Factory.” It’s on HomeAway.

Oh, and edited to add that you can have a smaller wedding at Hotel St. Cecilia (which I LOVE also) or maybe Hotel San Jose, but you have to rent out the entire hotel…Also, the new W Hotel Downtown is modern and super cool.
