Nice write up on Vladimir Ossipoff and his ‘casual formal’ style with strong roots in Japanese and modernism. I wasn’t very familiar with his work until a visit last year to Kauai. If you are interested in more this book provides a nice overview of his work.

Thanks for the link. You’ve contributed to my education, as this is the first I have heard of Ossipoff. I like his life’s goal of “fighting ugliness,” sort of what you do through your blog.
Hi, nice posts there 🙂 thank’s for the interesting information
I live in an Ossipoff house on Kauai, and although it is slowly sliding into ruin, it’s still an adventure. There’s always some design feature that we discover almost daily, usually when the trades are blowing, or the light shifts. Unfortunately, the holding company that we rent from wants to demolish the house and put in some commercial interests. However, since I’ve been able to find so much information on the internet, I’m thinking that I have a chance to get the home listed on some sort of historical register. Thanks for posting this!
